East Side Story is a twelve-volume compilation of oldies music. For generations, it has captivated the hearts of Chicanos as the photos and music remain a timeless reflection of the lowrider culture of the late 70s and early 80s. 

Despite its cherished status within the community, the origins of East Side Story remained largely a mystery for decades. After DJing at the opening of Q-Sides, a photo exhibition where the album covers were reimagined to be queer-inclusive, I became curious about the real people and places pictured in the original series. But when I tried to find out more about East Side Story, I realized this history was nowhere to be found. 

So in 2015, I took it upon myself to start documenting the stories behind this iconic series as East Side Story Project. Currently, I’m working on a book that compiles all of my research.
